Morning tech news: Handspring is now taking U.S. orders for the Treo, its new pocket-sized combination phone and organizer ($400), which is expected to ship later this month and be available at electronics retailers in March; A Business Week Online reports says that Momentum may be shifting to Microsoft, after AOL reported sharp declines in revenues in the fourth quarter of 2001; and Microsoft has plans to bring Chairman Bill Gates and CEO Steve Ballmer to testify at a remedy hearing and is accusing AOL Time Warner and Oracle of helping to draft a harsh remedy proposal.

    Bill and Steve

at the hearing? Is Bill going to testify that he has never taken a penny for his work at Microsoft and show his haircut as evidence for his having no money?

Are they going to user Balmer to skip and hop around the court room while sweating multitudes as a method of distraction?

    Treo Treo

Verizon is CDMA, instead of GSM, so there's no chance of the current Treo working. They don't really need a "deal" with anyone, you just need compatible networks. You could buy a Treo with no plan and take it to Germany and it would work.

They're working on a CDMA version though, so expect one in 6 months or so :(

Anyway this is the ideal PDA (until the color one comes out).. Handspring is very mac-friendly too. =)

    $400 !?

$400 dollars treo is promotion price with plans and stuff like that, otherwise it'll be more like $550.

I don't know about you, but with $400 or $550 you can build a PC with pretty decent configuration already.

    MS and AOL/Oracle

I find it funny that M$ is complaining that AOL and Oracle helped draft a harsh draft proposal. h***, M$ helped draft the "no guilt, no punishment" proposal they got from the DOJ.

I think they should fine MS for letting Ballmer dance around like he does...

And check out other movies of sweaty boy:

    No Office X support!

Until there is Office X support 3com can take a running jump. When they support Od=ffice X I will run and jump to the nearest store.

    Not 3Com

3Com has nothing to do with Palm anymore. Palm was spun off years ago.

    $450 Price

Hey, if you've seen cell phone prices lately, it's pretty pricey for a good one. Like $150 for a decent to good one with a plan. And about $200-$250 for a comparable Palm. This is a combination of a really good cell phone (although it's a big larger than more expensive ones) and a really good Palm (but smaller!). Add to that the GPRS features of a $200-$400 RIM Blackberry (although not active yet, blah), and it's a pretty good deal if you use those features.

Note that the Nokia Communicator which has far fewer features and is much larger is insanely popular in Europe but costs $600+.
