Most oppose MS anti-trust settlement

Almost half of the 30,000 public comments received by the Justice Department opposed the Microsoft settlement, while only a quarter of them supported last November's settlement proposal, according to a report in The New York Times. The report also noted that fewer than 10 percent of the comments "were deemed by lawyers for the Justice Department and Microsoft to be worthy of being "' as containing a degree of detailed substance.'"

    The People Have Spoken!

And the Majority agrees that it's a raw deal.

I just love how deeply M$ is allowed to be involved in this case...if it were any other company do you think the DOJ would have listened to that company's settlement terms? NO! They'd be laughed out of the courtroom/judge's chambers and probably repremanded for such nonsense.

I have to admit, their lawyers are pretty good...I just wish they'd choose to represent a better company (better = honest, innovative, pro-competition).

    Since when...

Since when does the majority rule in the USA? Not since the Supreme Court chose our last president...

    Bork

That's Judge Robert Bork of the Chicago School of Law, former nominee to the US Soopreem Kourt... He utterly denounced the proposed settlement. You can read all about it here: http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/opinions/4020/1/

BTW, damn straight the Soopreem Kourt shafted this country, they effectively staged a coup d'etat in that farce of an "election"... John W. Dean, whom you Gen-X folks will likely not know of, wrote a review of several books about the utter debacle that was the presidential election of 2000:
    http://www.salon.com/books/feature/2002/01/30/election/index.html

Dean, not known to be a leftist madman, has concluded:

"I could easily fill another book with what I gleaned from the Election 2000 books that now fill my shelf. But you should know a few bottom-line facts I learned from my reading. For these, the evidence is overwhelming, and the conclusions are inescapable, if not irrefutable:

¥ Al Gore, to win in Florida, should not have restrained his Florida team, worrying unnecessarily that the establishment elite would be unhappy with him, for if he had taken the attitude of his opponent -- Bush was prepared to tie up the election indefinitely, if necessary -- he could have prevailed in the Florida recount. He had more actual votes than Bush, not to mention more voters who were disenfranchised by Florida election errors. In truth, he won the Florida vote, but lost the recount.

¥ Florida Governor Jeb Bush's behind-the-scenes efforts and influence are still not fully known, but his presence was felt everywhere during the recount, assuring his brother's team a win. Jeb Bush's influence helped open doors for George W. Bush, and closed doors for Gore. This part of the story still remains to be told.

¥ The U.S. Supreme Court's intervention into the Florida recount was pure partisan politics, driven by the court's conservative majority, and their actions resulted in one of the high court's most shameful decisions ever.

¥ Finally, until we modernize our presidential election processes and procedures with new laws (and, if necessary, a constitutional amendment to abolish the outmoded electoral college), another presidential election debacle could easily, and very likely will, occur again. "

And I submit to you that the scumbag known as George W. Bush makes the likes of Richard M. Nixon look good if only in a few aspects.

    Unfortunately

Much of his popularity is in the fact that he is not clever enough to be truly evil. But because he has a number of clever and evil forces from the political and corporate world, manipulating him, he is just as dangerous as if he was.

    People who care.

Erm, nice way to stay on-topic folks.

People who had better things to do than write letters to the DOJ: Entire US population minus about 30,000.

Currently typing comments on a Dell P4, and very happy with Windows XP.

    Uppa U Ess!

People who were too stupid and/or wrapped up in their own little worlds to care enough to write the DOJ: Approximately 250,000,000 minus 30,000...

Currently typing on a dual 1GHz G4 that eats peeceez as a light snack, and kicking a** and taking names using OS X.

Why is it that PC Trolls think their pro-M$ comments are welcome in a Mac-centric forum?

Do us all a favor and log off, son.

Well, it should be self-evident that anyone brazenly stupid enough to buy a Dell would not have the good common sense to f*ck off and stay under his/her rock.
