New Zealand site posts pro-OSX column

A MacNN Reader reports that New Zealand's "largest daily newspaper," the New Zealand Herald, has posted largely positive article on Mac OS X and the new Apple hardware: “The default operating system is Mac OS X.1, which as anyone who has used it will tell you is a big advance on the first version, and far superior to puny pretenders like XP. [..] While some Pentium machines are claiming speeds well over 1GHz, the differences in the Apple architecture and operating system means the new G4 will leave Pentiums in its dust.”

    yeah

but the importer 'Renaissance' charge so much for them over here that no-one can afford them in NZ anyway.

    Prices

    Just to give example figures...
According to the NZ based website, totallymac.com, the new iMacs *start* at NZ$3594. The dual Ghz PowerMac starts at NZ$8249.

    Prices - do you math!

That's USD1,491.03 (inc GST) in New Zealand as compared to USD1,299.00 on the Apple Store site for a US machine.

So excluding tax (12.5%) $162 or so the price is.... wait for it..... THE SAME. USD1,500

Stop your whingeing! Complain about GST and not about the price.

    Ha!

That price wasn't including GST. Get over yourself. They're expensive.

Oh yah, sorry, forgot to mention that. It excludes GST, I'm afraid. Besides, Macs are competing against PC's made in NZ which start from $1500 in some cases. It would be wiser for Apple to lower the prices for their overseas machines, iReckon.
