MacNN Reader John Byrne writes that he has experienced a shipping delay with his iMac order:

I ordered my iMac at exactly 2pm the day of release, so I am in the first batch. Here is the latest report from Fedex (it shipped from Taiwan on 1/29)

Package status ANCHORAGE AK (01/31/2002 18:34) Regulatory Agency Clearance Delay

I called FedEx, all they could say was that it will delay things, maybe till next week sometime. They could give me no reason for the action taken by the "regulatory agency."

    hm

This is the same thing that occured with the iBook 500 when they first came out. Although I didn't have any problem with it being held up in Anchorage, there was many reports of people having theirs stuck there for a few days.

    On the 1st

I received an email on Jan 30th from Apple stating that my order "would be shipping in the next 5-7 business days". Two days later I have a sticky note from FedEx on my front door when I get home saying they attempted deliverly. I rushed down to the pickup facility to find my new baby waiting for me. I never even received a shipping confirmation from Apple and when I had checked the Online Status that prior afternoon, it was still "being reviewed". Not that I'm complaining or anything, it was a happy surprise for me that is for sure, however when I did a lookup on the FedEx tracking number, it passed throug Alaska with no problems at all....

Perhaps US Customs is just randomly picking some to inspect??

    Random

This has nothing to do with Apple and is merely customs doing random checks. I've had stuff shipped to me in the UK from all over the world, and stuff like this occassionally happens with FedEx packages.
