Reader: Apple excludes early-adopters

Dennis Globus shares his dissatisfaction with a recent promotion by Apple that excludes some of the earliest iMac buyers: "They took my order on a new iMac then, a few days later, sent me emails for a $25 discount on the computer and a $150 discount on Office. Problem is, neither of the discounts is valid because I'd already purchased the computer."

    simple

Call Apple and tell them you want the promo, if they say they cant give you the offer tell them to cancel your order and re-order again, getting the promo and giving them more paperwork

    Apple very good on that

Apple has historically been very good on those things. Just call, I would be surprised if they did not extend the offer to you.

    Apple great about this

During this past summer, I bought a machine on the one-time Apple student developer discount. At the time there Apple was running a promo where they'd throw in a free Lexmark Printer with any Mac purchased. I wasn't sure if I qualified, since I was getting the computer on a discount, but, sure enough, after getting in contact with them, I was mailed the printer immediately. They even put the delivery on express for me. For free.

Just give 'em a ring. I'd be surprised if they didn't fix this up for you.

    Selfish

Is it our culture that makes us so selfish?

When you ordered your Mac, you thought it was worth the price you paid, otherwise you wouldn't of bought it. Now you are upset because other people are getting something you are not. Who cares what other people are getting. They have to wait longer than you do. There - now you're getting something they aren't - an iMac sooner.

What should Apple do? There will always be people who buy things the day before a promotion. Should they never offer it? Should they back date it a few days so you can have it? What should the cut off date be? What about the people who bought the day before that? or the day before that?

Get over it, and enjoy your new Mac. If Apple had never offered the discounts you would be no better or no worse off.

    discounts

Why are they offering a discount on the new iMacs? I thought they were selling so fast that they couldn't keep up with demand?

    Re: Selfish

Ever hear of "price protection"? Most stores where I live will give a refund if the price drops within 7 days of purchase. I'm sure Apple would help out someone who bought a system 1 day before special rebates / price drops occur.
