I somewhat agree with you on that. Their quality has not been what it used to be lately. I had to have some G4's fixed for a dead front power panel (a problem with some G4's) and one of them died a week after I got it back with the same problem, even though they claim they replaced the whole mobo and front panel with new good ones.
And they also need someone to come in and organize the place too. There's always a sense of "chaos" and disorganization whenever I go there.
I am really sorry to hear this... Over the past 7 years, I have only had to go to them twice and each time got great service, but I do not doubt that those who have been dealing with them more recently and frequently than myself have had bad experiences, why would these posters lie? It's a shame TekServe is slipping...
to 119 23rd street, ground floor location finally ... i think it's the old chelsea market thing that used to be there. either way, it'll be bigger. i hope they still have the .10 coke machine ..
that it's where Carrie Bradshaw took her ailing Powerbook. "s** And The City" is one of the most pro-Macintosh shows I've ever seen, and they're not afraid to open or close a scene on a closeup of the Apple logo :)
They may appear to be a bit disorganized, but they are HONEST. Now many shops can have customers say that.. I brought in an ailing Mac that I was totally convinced needed a new motherboard. And I told them so when I brought it in.. guess what? It did NOT need it and they did NOT put one in and charge me 600 bucks. They fixed the problem and I only paid the basic fee.
Now if they COULD do something about the wait times...
I had posted the 2nd comment, about having to bring back a G4. To geezer- I wouldn't say my experience was "bad" p****, just "unexpected". TekServe used to be the "old reliable" as they say in their tagline, but lately I'd call them the "usually reliable"
As far as them being honest, I agree 100% there. I would trust their judgement over most anybody's, but they do need to keep up the standards. As for the long wait times, they're there for a reason of course, which is that they're the best game in town for fixin' Macs. Besides, as annoying as it is to wait, I see it as a sign that more and more people are using Macs! : ) Although it may not be a good thing that they're breaking down. : (
for this advertising? Maybe I should start sending "reader reports" about the company I consider to be the Mid-Atlantic's best choice for on-site Mac service: MacMedics.
No kidding, Groundwork. And this is a NEWS site?
(I was the first poster)
I do hope that things get better as they move. I know people at SMartMachines, whom they merged with, that really do know their stuff - I guess until the move, they're really kept on the back-burner so to speak.
The 10-cent coke machine IS the greatest, though. great on a HOT summer day in the city!

Oh please...
"Greatest Mac shop on the planet"?? I've done tons of business with TekServe since WAY back when, and they have been SLIPPING MAJORLY for the past 12 months. Replacing a 300w power supply with a 260w one? Three visits to fix the same iMac CD drive - each time I picked it up, still broken! Same for a G4 mobo - two visits! I could keep going...
They need to get it together and stop hiring idiots. And that's not speculation - I know more than a few of them, and they are QUITE stupid.
