c|net, as part of their Vision Series, has posted an interview with Dell CEO, Michael Dell. "If there is a key to Michael Dell's success, it is his ability to make the right decision at the right time--and often, that decision is to do nothing at all." Although Dell attributes a jump in sales to the 'Stephen' adveritsing campaign, it has avoided producing PDAs and opening stores as a method to jump-start sales.

    Michael Dell and Vision

Quite an oxymoron. His only talent is managing to create brand recognition with very forgettable and uninnovative products. And staying in business with paper thin profit margins.
    Besides, he's a real a--hole.

    And...

His employee relations are none too good... He is less than popular in Austin (?), TX... Dell's HQ. All in all, everything I have read about him leads me to believe that he has all the charm of week-old roadkill.

    Who the h*** cares?

Soooo whhattt?! He's got the same amount of vision for the computer industry as a used car salesman has for the car industry. The guy's a good business man but next to him, Microsoft can be seen as a true innovator!

    Dell's "success"

The only reason Dell has grown and become a little more successful than the competitors is because his PeeCee's cater to the HUGE IT industry who have a love affair with his conservative beige boxes! Nothing is innovative about Dell except his vision NOT to innovate!

Since founding his Austin, Texas-based company in 1984 as a 19-year-old dropout from the University of Texas, Dell has heard no shortage of experts explain why the sky was about to come crashing down on top of him--starting with the stock market collapse of 1987, which hit just as he was preparing to take the business public.

A company of less than $8 billion at the time, the PC maker grew to finish 2001 with $32 billion in sales. Perhaps most remarkable, Dell has succeeded without the next-big-thing bluster and hype that have come to define much of the high-tech industry in recent years.

    ... all in all, he's done what most haven't . . .
