osOpinion has posted a look at the future of Apple's FireWire technology as the company preps new technology. "The next major step in FireWire interfacing enhancement carries the moniker SBP-3 (Serial Bus Protocol 3). Current FireWire devices use SBP-2. The new protocol will purportedly reduce unnecessary bus traffic and improve overall throughput, as well as decreasing CPU load."

    FAST

That is way faster than I could ever see myself needing. 3.2 gigbits/second geez I could copy my hole hard drive in about 20 seconds.

    on deck for the G5?

so when do we see it?
i wonder if the G5 (whenever it comes out) with ship with this firewire2, DDRAM, modified motherboard and whatever else (plus i can assume a modified case to at least some degree)..... it'll make a nice splash to have a bunch of new features beyond an upgraded cpu. a massive Pro revision like this warrents an expo or press event, unlike the subtle release of the new G4s today.
