    Download Error

After completing the download form and hitting send I get a 192 error. Hmmm. Wonder if I should pass on using the beta?

    PFFFT!

Lamers! Youare OBVIOUSLY using the WRONG browser to cop the download, iCab's most recent beta glommed that file but FAST and NUM 7.0's Disk Doc works flawlessly on my Macs. Ya chuckleheads...

    So far, so good...

It downloaded and installed OK, and found the same errors that Norton 6.0.3 found. You still can't repair the boot volume, though, so it doesn't avoid a reboot. At least you can check things out without taking down OS X.

    NUM 7.0Beta

    1. Download with passive ftp turned off.

    2. Does any utility suite which features disk optimization and repair have any value added or relevance if you are operating in a mixed file-system environment .. on a single disk? If you have HFS+. IFS, DOS,. you can use the disk utility shipped with OS X.

    3. Wouldn't it be dangerous to use said utility in the environment described above? If it isn't UNIX literate is any disk or system utility "safe" to use?

    4. Freeware and shareware are wonderful things. Unfortunately, if they become preferred software on a vendor's platform way too many people.. especially manager types will be reluctant to buy.

Remember folks you're using a beta to "fix" your hard drive. Use with caution. Just a friendly reminder...

    NUM for X

Seemed to work fine albeit much slower than in OS 9. I'm guessing this might be because it's still in beta form. I remember the last time they did this the beta seemed slow at first and got faster with newer versions. As for optimization I've used Norton System Works all along in X and have noticed a slight increase in speed. This is the last app I've been waiting for in X. Can't wait until it's released. Well.......there is Game Ranger.

    Odd behavior

It installed and ran fine for me on two different machines. However, on my Beige G3 (upgraded with a Sonnet G4), it reported horrible problems with my B-tree, and 169 irreparable files. NUM 6.0.3 thought the 169 files were just fine, and fsck thinks my B-tree is in excellent condition. Also, is it just me, or is there no mention of Speed Disk in the release notes for this version?
