Radialogic ceases operations

updated 03:57 am EST, Tue December 5, 2000

A note on Radialogic's Website says the company has ceased operations, and that the company's technology was purchased by another that "wants to integrate it into their upcoming Macintosh products:"

"Due to the sensitive nature of this transaction, we are unable to disclose the company that purchased our technology. Our goal was to produce the most unique and advanced Macintosh software, and we are confident that the company who acquired our technology has the same goal in mind.

"We will not be abandoning our customers: If you purchased one of our products and have any questions or you would like support, E-mail us. We will continue to support our products until March 30th, 2001. Prosoft Engineering, Inc. will continue on, stronger than ever. We still own the rights to Chaos Master and NetWare for Macintosh, and will still be selling and supporting those products. The Prosoft website will be updated after the new year, and will include our recently infused company's new direction."

One can only hope that their pledge of non abandonment does not follow the history of their NetWare Client. An acknowledged and uncorrected issue with Office has plagued many users, and I do not believe that Prosoft will ever address it as Novell has taken over development of the Mac NetWare client.

    Pure speculation

"Due to the sensitive nature of this transaction, we are unable to disclose the company that purchased our technology."

Okay, they were purchased buy another company but they have to keep there mouth shut. Could Apple be the buyer? There would need software IF they were adding CD-R's. Also, Apple doesn't like to pay large sums of money for lincensing fees on their main OS. That is why Mac Link is no longer part of the base OS. Finally Apple wouldn't want the purchased annouced becuase it would show its hand as far as the additions of CD-R's are concerned. This is PURE SPECULATION, but it makes sense.

    Burning in the background

Was CD Master the only CDR application that allowed CD burning so you can do other things in the foreground? I was most looking forward to that ability with the advent of faster CDRS with larger buffers and burn-proof technologies(i.e. plextor and sanyo)

    Probably Adaptec

Hey: Like the subject line says, it was probably Adaptec that bought 'em. That way they preserve Toast and don't have to worry about competition. It worked for Nortons, Macromedia, etc. Or it could be Aladdin, I guess. Wait and see...

    Jobs confirmed it....

Jobs said CDRW is coming to the mac, so I bet Apple bought Radialogic out. That would be sweet if it were true. Apple might have the best CDRW technology in the industry if they play their cards right. Better late than never.
