JavaWorld talks about the state of Java on the Mac and points to some key software featured a JavaWorld's MacWorld conference session, including eVision Visual Search, Borland's JBuilder 6, QuickTime for Java, and Thinkfree Office as well as the forthcoming release of Java 1.4 (by WWDC in May).

    Server Side Java is good

Java is not just important for those "everyday" apps but also for the server. I can now do enterprise level java development under MacOS X with Apache, Tomcat, and JBoss. Plus I can run all the great Java IDEs like JBuilder and Forte. The java developer community loves this!

Further improvement by Apple would be great. We already have a an excellent enviroment that as good if not better then Windows. If Sun would help market if a bit more that would really help.

    Sucks?

Are you asking if it sucks?
With all those question marks one has to wonder. Or are you telling us you are clueless?

Good program. Does what I need it to.

Just because LimeWire('s interface) sucks, doesn't mean that it's not popular. (Look at windoze!) Nor does it mean that Java sucks.

    java is great

Tomcat, cacoon, netbeans, calculator.app. I could name some more. I'm sure there are a ton of enterprise apps in java. Hey, the more software that runs on my mac the better. Believe me we need all the help we can get. I think its great I can serve jsp pages off of my mac with tomcat.

Java 1.31 and Hot Spot. Man, you can't beat that!

Now that OS X is the default os for shipping macs java can be a serious option now for developers. Frankley, this developer is pleased. Hope Sun and Apple work together some more...

    Java is lovely

IntelliJ IDEA, an awesome IDE. jEdit, a great programmer's text-editor. WebObjects, a hefty application server.

    the app is deffo..

Limewire. The 1.7 version is excellent. (Don't bother with "upgrading" to being plagued with ads.) It works, and that's quite enough; on X or Classic.
