Reader: PB G4 Upgrade program delayed?

updated 10:15 am EST, Mon January 14, 2002

Craig Madey writes about delays in the PowerBook G4 Combo Upgrade program, which starts today--although Apple's website has yet to be updated: "I called my (Buffalo) Apple store today to confirm that they would be taking orders for the Powerbook G4 Combo Drive upgrade offer. I was informed that the program had been indefinitly delayed."

    What a Crock

You know, I bought a 550 MHz PowerBook when they came out, and I _knew_ I should have waited until the Combo Drives were announced for them. What a SNAFU all around -- on the part of Mac customers for buying outdated technology when Apple clearly should already have included Combo Drives, and on Apple's part for not waiting just a couple of months to sell the proper product. And now this mess!

But it's all good cuz I bought a Lacie firewire CD burner that's much faster than the combo drive and has the added bonus of making CD duplication a snap (2 drives are better than 1).

    RE: What a Crock

Computers are outdated the minute you buy them anyway, so it's my opinion that if you wait to buy until the next best thing comes out, you'll never buy anything anyway.

But, as you mentioned, your configuration is the better performance bet anyway. A fast outboard firewire burner will always work better than the internal one, especially if your life doesn't revolve around burning discs.

    Best regards,
    Chris
