Apple's holiday gift guide

updated 08:30 am EST, Mon December 4, 2000

Apple has posted a holiday gift guide for Mac owners, categorized by type of user as well as by price. (Readers should note that Apple does not necessarily offer the best prices on the items it recommends.)

    GREAT journalism!

Why was it necessary to say "Readers should note that Apple does not necessarily offer the best prices on the items it recommends"?

If the article had been about MacWarehouse or MacMall or DealNN would you have said the same OBVIOUS fact? I don't think so. Stop insulting my intelligence. If I want help pricing my holiday gift ideas, I am certainly NOT going to come to MacNN for advice.

    Prices

I don't think there is any insult offered. But if there is what is your choice of weapons?

    Wasn't Necessary.

I aggree with the first poster, MacNN should not have added that line to the post. Is it just me, or does MacNN always have a bad word for Apple...

    Huh???

You guys need some cry baby soup? Gimme a break. They are just reporting the fact that the prcies are not the 'best'. BFD. Maybe someon edoes care? Maybe they know their user base better than you do? If you were insulted by that you need to see some prffesional help.

    I'm with Huh?? !!

Of course it matters... Apple almost ALWAYS overcharges for its products, especially when you consider they charge tax on EVERYTHING that's shipped ANYWHERE (as well as excessive shipping charges). The guide is great, but certainly don't use it as anything more than just a guide.. go to deal-mac, dealnn, shopper, or any number of other places to find the good prices.

Call me anti-Apple, but I'd rather save money than voluntarily give to a company whose stock is down nearly 80% this year.

    Think before you speak

If you won't buy from Apple because there stock is down 80%, that means you won't be buying any gifts this Christmass. Just about any company on the market is lost 50% or more of its value.

Second, Apple charges tax because the law states that any company that operates an office in the state must charge online sales tax for that state. Apple has offices in all 50 states, so all online sales are taxed. Dell is the same, if that makes any difference to you.

    Unbelievable

You all need to lighten up imho. Find something else to argue about that really matters, not whether or not macnn was trying to help its reader base, or hurt apple. And for what it's worth, I seriously doubt macnn would try to harm the company that is keeping it financially solvent. So they must truly have been trying to bring the facts of the matter to people's attention that wouldn't otherwise get them.
    Happy Holidays.

    Not very helpful

The last line does stand out - does MacNN put that little disclaimer on each article that is about some product or other? I don't mind it really though its stupid to state the obvious - the thing that bothers me about it is that given this warning they make no attempt to provide links to the "better prices" - So really they're just lazy bums.
Hey! you can get it cheaper but we're not telling where!!
