Adobe today introduced GoLive 6.0 (and Adobe Web Workgroup Server), a new OS X-native version of its site management and collaboration package with wireless authoring and workgroup functions.

GoLive 6.0 offers new functions for team collaboration, allowing multiple users to easily track changes, and share and manage files as well as version control and side-by-side comparison capabilities. The Web Workgroup Server supports any WebDAV-enabled application such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Macromedia Dreamweaver

GoLive 6.0 also includes full QuickTime 5.0 editing environment with streaming conversion and optimization capabilities, a visual authoring environment utilizing video, audio, SWF, SVG and support for W3C standards like SMIL. It also includes the ability to deliver database-driven content and native support for common dynamic scripting languages, including PHP, ASP, and JSP.

It is expected to ship in the first quarter of 2002 for $400 (includes Work Group Server). It will be available bundled with LiveMotion for $450 and as part of the Adobe Web Collection 4.0. Upgrades from v5.0 are $100.

    Upgrade need v 5.0?

It looks to me like I can not upgrade my Adobe Pagemill to GoLive now? Only v 5.0 of GoLive?

    speed, not featuritis!

I hope they speeded the dang thing up. Golive 5 is ridiculously slow at opening files - it takes forever to parse the HTML and images. A typical image-heavy page of around 40k was opening in 3-4 secs in Dreamweaver, but took 25secs in Golive on my g3/400 b/w.

I'd happily trade the "extra" features (most of which nobody ever uses, let's be honest) for a speed hike that takes it closer to Dreamweaver - which is super fast but which IMHO suffers from an unbelievably clunky interface.

Also, let's hope Adobe has managed to steamline the far-too-long-and-cumbersome Actions / Javascripts for rollovers etc. Once again, Macromedia's code is far better and more compact.

One more reason Dreamweaver Still wins... GoLive is a kiddy toy in denial. You want power... Macromedia has it.

That makes sense to me. Pagemill was killed quite a while ago and Pagemill and GoLive aren't the same product.

If you want to upgrade your GoLive, you should already have GoLive installed otherwise, what are you upgrading?

I see...and you're a professional web designer working for a professional web design firm or out of your bedroom?

I see Adobe with an OS X WYSIWYG package. I don't see Macromedia with one. I see GoLive with a commercial quality PHP support. Name another WYSIWYG app that has that built-in. You and I haven't even seen the new GoLive, so you don't have anything to sprout off about. I've been using Dreamweaver (and then UltraDev) since version 1.0. It's a tremendous package. But Macromedia had a chance to jump way ahead by including PHP support in UltraDev 4.0. Instead, they chose ColdFusion instead. Kudos to Adobe for getting it right and adding one of the hottest web development technologies.

Further, Fireworks exports GoLive compatible code. Fireworks works with GoLive.

Please sit down hush up until you know what you're talking about.

    Adobe is for Windows!

Excited about GoLive 6.0, I downloaded the product sheet (9 pages) only to find WINDOWS screenshots ONLY!!! NO OS9 OR OSX screenshots.

Hmmm... maybe they should add the statement, "As you can see, our products look GREAT under Windows".

Even the top of the first page goes so far as to list the OS' it runs on (Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Mac OS 8/9 and 10.1; note the work mac listed once and windows listed 4 times!!)

C'mon Adobe!!! What's the problem here? Is it the market share or is it OS X???????
