HyperCard Group to hold session at Expo

iHUG (the International HyperCard Users Group) plans to hold a special session regarding the current state, and future of Apple's now largely defunct HyperCard programming software at next week's expo in San Francisco. The event will take place at the Users Group lounge of the Moscone Center on Wednesday, January 9, from 10:00 to 11:00 am.

    HyperCard v. AppleScript

    HyperCard and AppleScript were quite different environments. HyperCard is more self-contained; AppleScript reaches out system-wide to control other apps.

    There was never really a turf war between them, and little reason to suppose Apple dropped one in favor of the other (other than for resource-personnel reasons).

    There are RUMORS -- and possibly wild(card) rumors at that -- that Apple will indeed Carbonize HyperCard.

    This rumor emanated from France, where it is rumored (lots of rumors here!) that Renault, the innovative car maker, has a vast inventory system based on HyperCard, and that a Carbonized product would be key to getting them to Mac OS X...

    Hypercard and Applescript

    Hypercard let you choose a scripting language - you could use Applescript in it as well as Hypertalk. It was really powerful that way - I wrote an instant messanger app in it once :)
