Too much hype affects AAPL?

Apple's pre-show hype, as noted by Forbes.com may not live up to expectations, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal: "Stock could 'hit the skids' after Monday's MacWorld trade show, according to the WSJ's 'Heard on the Street' column. Even much-anticipated new product releases may not provide a boost to the stock, continuing the historical pattern of a run-up before the show and a sell-off following the news."

Wheww! do I need a skid!

If AAPL would just be good enough to skid back down to 15, I'd lay my hands on some for sure!

    Legit Concern?

Apple knows what they are getting into with hype like this. I'd like to think that the actual show will not disappoint. But Apple has a habit of exaggerating.

    Most Obvious Award

AAPL always goes up before Expo, and tanks afterwards. Its as sure as the 10 year cycle the US economy goes through.

I am just amazed at the slight buyer-beware article, usually these guys pump their own cache of stocks or help out their company's holdings. Yes Virginia, the stock market can go down as sure as it can go up.

    Thank you, Capt. Obvious!

Is not one of the axioms of stock trading "Buy on the rumor, sell on the news"?

As Norm MacDonald used to say on SNL Weekend Update, "Read more about this, and many other fine articles, in this month's issue of DUH! Magazine."

    What historical pattern?

The article showed a graph of Apple's stock price with product launch dates tagged (iMac, Cube, iBook, etc). Frankly, the graph didn't really support their thesis. Apple stock has had many ups and downs over the last several years, but at a casual level I didn't really see much of a correlation between major price swings and product launches with the exception of a large drop shortly after the Cube was announced. (Was there a negative financial announcement at that time?) I fact, I would expect the opposite reaction - I think Apple probably sees a slowdown in sales before major product announcements, as potential buyers choose to wait to see what comes out rather than buy a soon-to-be-displaced model.
