Cisco Aironet drivers support OS X

Cisco recently posted updated Aironet 2.0 drivers for its line of wireless PCI/PC card adpaters. Version 2.0 contains new OS X drivers as well the previous release of Mac OS 9 drivers; James Nenneman provided some feedback:

"I emailed you last week about the drivers that were soon to be posted for Aironet Cards. I downloaded them within an hour of their being posted. The 2.0 version of the driver software for OS X does not work. I have tested it with Powerbook G4s and G3s running anything from 10.1 to 10.1.2. It does not work. ;-( What is more disappointing is that when installed on OS 9 the driver and utility package are still the older 1.02. I have attempted to contact Cisco, but with no luck."

    Hmm...try harder...

I find this report a little difficult to believe. I doubt seriously that Cisco released drivers without testing them. Therefore, I suspect they work for at least some people.

I'm also curious about the comment about being unable to contact Cisco. Just open a TAC case.

    IT DOES WORK

I think it's user's fault again... it does work with my Aironet 340 card in my TiBook 10.1.2, and Apple ABS!

At http://www.macfixitforums.com at least if you register, you will know when you get responses, and will get techies able to help you, if you failed to get those cards working.

    Try harder; User fault

Cisco's website isn't the easiest thing to navigate and, yes, the driver may work for some people, but the configurations I tested did not work. They were; TiBook 400 w/ 10.1.1 and 10.1.2; Powerbook G3(bronze) w/ 10.1, 10.1.1, 10.1.2. I really don't care if it works in others. I need it to work in mine and it doesn't. I have tried contacting Cisco, but I the online form that I filled out only sent me an automated response back that made no sense for what I was trying to do. I have no experience with TAC. All I know is that I filled out a support form and have received no response.
In response to "IT DOES WORK"; NO IT DOESN'T.
I have been around computers long enough to know my way around (20+yrs). The card I have is a 350. I don't care if your 340 works. If it doesn't work accross the board there is a problem.

Apple has testing facilities for this. As for Cisco not releasing drivers that have not been tested I bet that these drivers were outsourced to another company. I have always wondered how sincere Cisco was about Mac support. I think the only reason they came out with drivers for their cards was that they were getting their lunch eaten by Orinoco(Lucent) in the University sector. Don't get me wrong, I think that Cisco has the best equipment out there. I just hope they are taking the Mac market more seriously.

BTW; When Cisco first posted this driver they posted it with a '.dat' extension. I let them know of the error. This makes me question how well they know the Mac. (.dat is what PCs substitute if there is no extension on a file. What were you saying about 'testing'?)

    I got it to work.

I just installed the new Aironet drivers for OS X and it worked! It required me to do a little fiddling with the Aironet Access Point. At first the client adpater would authenticate, but not associate. I had to change the Setup so that it the access point was set for range rather than throughput and I think that did it!

I am rather impressed the Arionet Client Utlilies. It blows what Apple offers with the Airport out of the water. Very intuitive with tons of bells and whistles.
