Afternoon tech: The open-source MPlayer offers QuickTime support under Linux with its latest release; A recent study found that up to 5% of the Internet - potentially 100 million hosts - are completely unreachable; and Yahoo announced that sales volume at its shopping sites between Thanksgiving and Christmas increased more than 86 percent from a year ago and that its shoppers spent $10.3 billion online in the fourth quarter.
