Apple pulls iPod Updater: B&W PowerMac issues

Apple has pulled the iPod Software Updater version 1.0.3 due to hardware incompatibilities. The update, which was released yesterday, has compatibility issues with "blue and white" Power Macintosh G3 systems. "The iPod Software Updater 1.0.3 has been temporarily removed due to incompatibilities with "blue and white" Power Macintosh G3 systems," an AppleCare document that was updated today reads, "A new version which addresses the issue will be posted shortly."

Gee, this is becoming

way too common. Maybe it's just bad luck, but this negative publicity with the iPod and iTunes is making Apple look bad. Hope this bad luck streak cross over to affect its other software updates.

Its not a major security hole that lets someone erase your hard drive.

What are you talking about? OS X's biggest flaw is that any person who breaks into your home and hack into your computer can erase your hard drive. I'm not going to use X until that bug is fixed. OS X should have a anti-burgerler to stop people from stealing burgers.

To bad the other guy didn't get your humor. but what about the Mc Donold's Ham Burgler? We don't want to see him in jail :) But he does get caught in every commercial I have seen him in.

Maybe we need to hire Ronald himself to stop these burglers :)

Oh and to answer your question about OSX. I just put my HD in a removable bay so I can take it with me. Then thay can't erase it. I just hope I don't get mugged!

Erm...

I got an b&w G3, and the update worked fine. Maybe they could describe the problem in more detail than "incompatibilities". That could range from "the leftmost pixel on the right of the installer's window is black instead of white" to "all hard disks will be wiped and the iPod will blow up"...

Cart before horse

Thanks to all the whiners here Apple wants to put the cart before the horse to get things out quickly. Time to cool down, let Apple do its thing, and do it at a speed that does not compromise quality. You can't have it all...All these rumors just hurt Apple in the long run, because they are trying to please people who don't know anything about quality control. Quality takes time. And time is one thing it seems to kids they don't have enough of, so they rush things before they are complete. It is time that kids learned patience, and stopped rumoring beyond Apple's capabilities. Go work for Apple and maybe you'll learn. I find it awful that Apple seems to rush all these updates out before they are ready. Well the impatience has finally backfired on all you rumor mongers. Apple now is releasing things before they are ready, and has to recall them the moment a problem strikes. That's not how it is supposed to work. Release betas to people who have the various different supported machines, and once all those work, then release the product.

I have an iPod and use it with a Quicksilver and would really love to get this update (who knows when they will re-post), so could someone who actually got it post it on the net? I would really appreciate it.

i downloaded and installed the 1.0.3 upgrade when it first came out (before they pulled it)...no problems at all. G4 400 Gigabit Ethernet.
