Stephan Somogyi talks about how Macs influenced 'Lord of the Rings', which used Glenn Anderson's HiDef preview app that "accepts individual uncompressed frames sent to it over gigabit Ethernet via FTP, and allows users to do useful things with them. But what's important about HiDef to the non-film-nerd is that it runs on a Power Mac G4 under Mac OS 9, and neither of those facts are likely to change soon."

    Choice...

    ...is good. If Mac OS 9 is best for your needs, then stick with it, by all means. Be clear, however, that Mac OS X must and will move forward, and will never be "the same" as Mac OS 9. I look forward to Apple improving Mac OS X to the point when it will address all of my computing needs - it's close, but not quite there yet.
