Afternoon tech news: Excite@Home has cut 400 jobs in preparation for its close, which bondholders are still fighting; An ex-Nvidia engineer has been fined $250,000 for insider trading; Intel has lost its bid for $82 million in damages against Broadcom in an alleged patent violation suit.

    Lawsuit????

    if intel thinks they can sue Broadcom over the use of eathernet, cant Apple sue intel over using eathernet since Apple was the first company to use the eathernet/network protocol? seems to me that the mac plus could use it and back around 86 or 87 apple implemented it in all of thier systems along with phone adapters. whats next? AT&T suing computer companies for using phone lines for something they were not intended for?

    Mac plus?

    How could the mac plus use ethernet?

    You could get a SCSI-Ethernet adapter that worked on all Macs with a SCSI port, including the Mac Plus.

    First of all, it is spelled "ethernet."

    Secondly, PhoneNet adapters and LocalTalk cabling are not ethernet.

    Thirdly, Bell used to have rules that stated that no 3rd party devices were to be connected to their phone lines. You had to buy or rent your telephone from the phone company, and the only way to connect something like a modem was through an acoustic coupler, where you placed the handset of your Ma Bell phone into a cradle. They finally relented around the time that people started using answering machines, and they also allowed you to buy your own phone at that point.
