As noted yesterday, Apple has posted iTunes 2.03, for both OS X and Mac OS 9, which "offers greater control when synchronizing iTunes with the iPod by transferring only the checked songs in your library and playlists to your iPod. This version also adds support for the Rio One MP3 player from SONICblue, a tool for for correcting improperly encoded Unicode tags, and improved stability and performance," according to one reader.

    Dear Apple...

It is great to see good improvements to a great program like iTunes... but I have one gripe. I recently purchased a QueFire 24x10x40 Firewire CDRW drive. I hope the Authoring Support gets an update to support my drive. I have a 9600 with a Firewire card. I was able to get Disc Burner installed and working, but all I need now is a supported CD burner. If when the update for my drive comes out and it works.... I will be very happy camper cause it gives my old mac a bit more life. It does have a g3 500 in it and many upgrades.

This proves one thing also... my old mac may be far from the newest thing on the block... but it still earns it's keep right well. Photoshop and all the other latest Desktop Publishing apps and Multimedia and Video work is still easily capable on my old mac. I would buy new, but unemployment in the Boston area kept me from buying a new g4.... guess if those g5 rumors are true... I will benefit from waiting.

Anyways, off the soap box I go.

    iTunes Not Responding

I have a gripe about the new itunes 2.0.3.... I have just noticed that since downloading and installing this program last night 12/14/01 - 2AM iTunes will not respond after boot with an Audio CD in the Drive. I have a QuickSilver G4 733, and an iBook 500 MHz. To see if it was common I tested it on my freshly restored iBook and it did the same thing. What happened was I left a cd in my CD-ROM. After booting this morning I noticed iTunes had launched in the background due to the arrow underneath it. I am running OS 10.1.2 and went to click on itunes and nothing responded I did a control click and it said application not responding. I tryed to Froce Quit and IT WOULD NOT QUIT!!!!! I had to force my system to restart then eject the disc. Be careful with the update as I got the same problems on my iBook

    iTunes Not Responding

One thing I forgot to append to my last comment was that I had iTunes to automatically import songs then eject when a cd is in the drive.

    Still crashes 9.1

Thought this might fix the crashing problems with 9.1 but no. Installed it, the radio tuner actually worked without crashing for awhile even when using IE 5 (which was 2.0.1's death) but then I launched Eudora while it was playing and it took the whole system down.

    Back to 1.1.

    Que! Fire with iTunes

    Andyrook,

It sounds like you have one of the drives with a Plextor machanism. If so, there is a patch that you can apply manually that should allow you to used it with iTunes and Apple Disc Burning. Go to http://forums.xlr8yourmac.com/faq.lasso, click on "CDROMs and CDRs", and then click on the link titled "I have a Que 24x Firewire drive or Plextor 24/10/40 CDRW drive with no iTunes support".

I lucked out when I got the "same" drive a week ago: it contained a Sanyo mechanism, which is officially supported.

    Que Fire! Drive

I have a 16x Que!Fire, and it works fine with DiscBurner, and I never installed any update. Just like the 24x, it uses a Plextor mechanism.

People are reporting that 2.0.3 has *HOSED* OS X on their systems- anything akin to that here?

    iTunes 2.0.3 problem

I installed 2.0.3 via the software updates panel, and it hung my machine (DP G4 800MHz/1.1 GB memory) on restart.

When the machine tried to restart, the beachball stopped spinning and 20 minutes later, I was restarting of the 10.1 CD. All seems ok now. I had no peoblem upgrading to 2.0.2 on the same machine.
