iTunes v2.0.3 has been released via the Mac OS X Software Update panel :

iTunes for Mac OS X lets you create and organize your own personal digital music library. The second generation of iTunes adds powerful new tools that help enhance your listening experience, burns MP3 data CDs, and provides support for Apple's iPod, offering unprecedented music portability. It's snappier

    It feels snappier than 2.0.1

    Two Questions

    1. Does anyone know why each Apple product I install (DevTools, ITunes, etc.) all spend almost half the installation type "Optimizing" What exactly is happening there?

    2. An iTunes update is great; but where is the 10.1.2 update? There's a lot of seriously important things in that update that I hope would be available soon.

    Optimizing

This is a UNIX thing. It's actually pre-binding all the applications, so that the system knows about where all the shared libraries etc. are located, and this makes it much faster to use.

    rumors causing problems!

See, this is exactly why Apple doesn't like rumors. Someone is already starting to be impatient about the 10.1.2 update even though Apple never mentioned that there will be one released this month. Personally like the rumors b/c they're fun to read, but I always take them with a grain of salt (though I prefer a grand assault).

    Finally...

My Rio One works with iTunes 2! I didn't know that fix made it in 2.0.3 until I downloaded it and read teh Read Me file.

    NOT AGAIN!!!

I updated to this version of iTunes and it wanted to
restart my Mac (Cube/500). I clicked on the Restart
    button and it restarted.

When the smiling Mac and beach ball appears, I get a
kernel panic. My Mac is now unbootable. I had to
reboot/reinstall using my 10.1 CD and reinstall the two updates
to get me back to 10.1.1 (Security Update and 10.1.1 Update).

Doesn't anyone at Apple test these things anymore? Any why
in God's green earth does iTunes fsck around with critical
    kernel files?

I'm not touching this for a couple of days.

    Ok Here

I was a little concerned, but the update went fine on my TiG4 667. I have a standard OS X install, single partition, etc. Was running 10.1.1 with the original iTunes before the update.
