Adobe has licensed DVD authoring technology from Sonic Solutions, which "will form the foundation of an Adobe-branded professional DVD authoring application." Under the terms of the agreement, Adobe will license the technology underlying Sonic Solutions' DVD product line including Sonic's AuthorScript formatting engine. Adobe and Sonic will work together to initiate development of Adobe-branded DVD software, and a core team of engineers from Sonic Solutions will join Adobe.

    core business

i've seen a stockmarket crash or two and the thing i kept hearing from the nearly-dead companies is "we strayed too far from our core business". let's hope adobe doesn't over-reach in their efforts to expand.

    How sad...

That's all they can come up with in answer to Final Cut Pro and DVD Studio Pro? Pathetic.
Steve Jobs must have peed himself laughing when he heard about this purchase.
Pretty sad, considering how early Adobe was to market with Premiere and how they proceeded to do absolutely nothing with it.
And kudos to Stevie for recognizing a golden opportunity, ignoring all the naysayers and coming up, once again, with insanely great software.

Note to Adobe's board of directors: maybe it's time to fire Brucie and bring back the old timers. Poor Chizen has no fricking clue what he's doing.

Perhaps I should reveal to you that neither FCP nor DVD SP originated at Apple. FCP came from Macromedia (in an early, rough form, of course) and DVD SP was an Astarte app (though the nature of which I don't know). With that said, however, Apple did put *at least* the finishing touches on both apps, and a very commendable job they did.

    Wow

Funny how you muppets get all worked up about this. Some competition will do Apple good.

    Revelations

It's not like Premiere originated at Adobe either. Neither did Photoshop for that matter.
The whole point is that Jobs recognized phenomenal potential in a failing business, purchased it against all the pundit recommendations, and proceeded to make it the best video app ever. Same thing with DVD Studio Pro.
Meanwhile, Adobe did absolutely nothing with its leadership position with Premiere. Version 6 is disgusting.
    That was my original point.
