Digital Global Network has unveiled the MPIO-DMK, a new Mac-compatible MP3 player that is about the size of a lipstick canister and weighs just over one ounce. The MPIO-DMK comes in 64 and 128 MB configurations priced at $180 and $210 respectively. Both models include USB connectivity.

    4hours??

128mb = 4hours... wow, i guess if you like the sound of 96k compression thats great for you... 4 hours at 160 is almost 300MB

    PS
4 hours for 128mb is actually 91k compression

    MPIO Web site

Their web site can be found at http://www.mpio.com/e_main.asp and the player itself at http://www.mpio.com/product_htm/e_dmk.asp. You can even download the manual.

(By the way, why don't press releases ever include web site info???)

There seems to be some confusion on the memory issue. On the website memory is listed as 32/64 MB, but on a German site - http://www.golem.de/0112/17356.html - (where I found the link to the company) it says 64 mb for $179, 128Mb for $209.

Weight 29 g, AAA battery, USB download, can be worn as a pendant on a necklace, or on a wrist strap.

    Quick, bash it!

It's not an iPod, quick, bash the h*** out of it! No firewire? Only 64 and 128 megs as options? It sucks!!!!

(Sorry, just had to fill in for all the bashing of the other players last week)

    No thanks...

I've watched, and waited, for my girlfriend to dig through her purse for things this size for what seemed like hours. My point: if you can lose something that size in a purse no bigger than a football, than you can kiss your little MPIO-DMK good-bye. And if it's true you can only store about 2 hours of 160, than it's not worth. It takes longer to load than play. Gimme iPod.

    Pretty cool...

Okay, so it doesn't hold a heck of a lot in terms of memory, and it's personally a bit TOO small for my "hands-on" feel (I like the size and weight of the Newton, but many people call the MessagePad 130 a brick, soooo... I may be in the minority here. ;) ...BUT, all-in-all... it's pretty cool. Even if just in concept.

I'll be scared the day they have to put "Warning: Choking Hazard" on the things!

That's funny. You see, if it doesn't have FireWire, it really DOES suck!

    I hate to bash........

Why would you even bother?! I think that it is great that you can have a MP3 player the size of a lipstick tube, but...... 128 Mb for $210? Speed & conectivity aside..... 128 Mb = $210 vs. 4,600 Mb = $399 ( after formatting.) That isn't bashing, it's just economics.

    it's a great product

Mac users never bash a good product, just to make apple's product look good.

Why bash a great product like this, it's good in the way that it's small in size and light.

    Oh, please...

Too little, too late. Simply because iPod currently (underline that last word; somebody will come along with a better mousetrap soon. Probably Apple, but I'm willing to laud a company that can best the 'Pod) rules the roost, doesn't mean we're bashing to cite its virtues. It's just the best all around unit available by miles as of 12/11/01.
