Kevin Van Vechten has recently "pieced together an ssh-agent plugin for Mac OS X's login window application. The plugin starts an ssh-agent on login and makes it available to all the processes the user runs. This allows the use of the same ssh-agent across Terminal.app, xterm, and ProjectBuilder sessions (among other things.)"
