This week's public announcement of Apple's winning bid to supply Maine's seventh- and eighth-graders with iBooks could help persuade lawmakers to preserve the $30 million program, even as they consider ways to cover a state budget shortfall, according to MainToday.com, which notes that it could give "controversial initiative the edge it needs to withstand budget cuts when the Legislature returns in January."
