Apple selected as top wireless vendor

The Maine Department of Education has selected Apple as the top-scoring bidder for the Maine Learning Technology Wireless Classroom Solution, a four-year initiative to provide portable, wireless computers, wireless networks, teacher training, and related services to equip all seventh and eighth grade students and teachers as provided by the plan for the Maine Learning Technology Endowment. (Final purchase negotiations for the contract are now under way.)

Looks like Apple can not only hang-on, but grow in the US edu market. Just Imagine what they could do with up to date hardware. Let's hope 2002 brings the hardware that OSX deserves.

Apple does wireless now?

Dell was the first company to introduce wireless technology a few months ago - now Apple is doing it too - will this company ever do anything origional???

What irks me is that some guy invents "The Computer" and Jobs and Wozniak come along and COPY COPY COPY the concept! WHAT A RIP OFF! The MAC is a COPY!

Under the plan approved by the Legislature for the Maine Learning Technology Endowment, all seventh grade students and teachers will begin using portable, wireless computers in the Fall of 2002, and all eighth grade students and teachers will be equipped the following year...

This may sound dumb, but if you equip 7th grade students, then wait a year to equip 8th grade students, aren't you giving the same students another laptop?

...and to add more to my original post (yes, it really is ME and not some, er, COPYCAT...), Apple copied the use of:
* Letters on keyboards (from the typewriter)
* Buttons, like the mouse button (from cars and appliances),
* TV/CRT screens (MAJOR, MAJOR COPY!)
* The use of Electricity (Edison screwed again!)
* The Apple (Forget Abbey Rd; we're talking GARDEN OF EDEN here)
* Human users (you name it; a concept copied from everything ever made, except the TV)
* Speakers
* The use of black and white (books, newsprint, etc.)
* The Slot (for disks, a rip off of fashion designers and possibly your own mouth)

I could go on, but this is pointless. Apple has proven that they've copied all their concepts from others. COPY COPY COPY! They are BADDDDDD!

Lets hope this deal goes through. Maine could be used as a role model for Apple and Education. If this thing works and works well, then this just may be the tip of a HUGE iceberg.

"A state official also disclosed Monday that the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the philanthropic organization begun by the founder of Microsoft, has offered to donate an undisclosed sum to the state that would be used in connection with the laptop plan."
