Nice indeed, but I'm wondering... While Apple keeps prices stable when updating G4s, what will be the price increase on those machines. A quad G5 sounds nice but I don't think I will be able to afford it...

    jan sounds right

If apple has been consistant with around a 6 month developer phaze of a chip introduction, and the G5 being in the hands of developers now for 4 or 5 months, january sounds extremely likely. i too was an one the many ignorant asses saying "no no def G4 come mwsf blah blah" now i am def. accepting the possibility of Powermac G5's in january.

Well, if the next two years are like the past 2, the macs then should be a whopping 50% faster, just as the 857 is about 50% faster than the 450 of 1999. Let's pray the long drought is finally over!

    re: 2 years

FWIW, I own a 1999 vintage G4/400 (AGP). Having extensively used a Quicksilver G4/867, I can tell you that it's at least 100% faster than my G4. It would be nice if even more progress had been made, but twice as fast in less than 2 years ain't bad...

The G5 promises to be spectacular.

The G4/867 is 100% times faster than your 400? I have the 450 and have been waiting to upgrade. LOL, man what a jump for me if they come out wih a 1.4ghz with the DDR ram!!
