New FirmTek card supports up to 20 external drives

Serial ATA storage solutions developer FirmTek has revealed that its SeriTek/Q6G 4-Port eSATA host adapter is now available. The high performance SeriTek/Q6G is Mac OS X bootable, whether installed inside the Apple Mac Pro or a Thunderbolt PCIe expansion chassis, with and without SATA port-multiplication.

The SeriTek/Q6G is built to support several types of eSATA enclosures. With direct connect enclosures, each drive connects to its own individual eSATA port. The SeriTek/Q6G also supports port multiplication enclosures. The Q6G allows up to five SATA drives to be connected to a single port, or up to 80TB and 20 hard drives with four multi-bay enclosures.

The PCIe x4 card also functions in an x2 slot, at lower speeds. The card has support in Mac OS X 10.6 through 10.7 (and possibly 10.8), and functions in Windows 7 and 8. Many Thunderbolt PCIe expansion chassis are compatible with the new eSATA card. Additionally, multiple SeriTek/Q6G controllers can be configured to support a single large RAID set.

FirmTek SeriTek/Q6G 4-port eSATA controllers for the Apple Mac Pro and Windows 7 PC are available now, with a retail price of $200.
