Miglia offers Alchemy ATA133 RAID PCI card

updated 12:20 pm EST, Fri November 30, 2001

Miglia Technology has announced immediate availability of its Alchemy ATA133 RAID PCI card. The new card provides 133MB/s on each of its two channels allowing up to four separate drives to be connected inside the Mac (2 drives on the internal bus, 2 on the ATA card), as well as support for RAID 0. The Alchemy ATA133 RAID is both OS X and OS 9 compatible.

Caution!

The Quicksilvers have only 3 power drops in the case. This limits you to only 3 internal drives. If you put a splitter on one of the drops to accomodate a 4th drive you will void your Apple Warranty.

Also, you may remember that with the release of the previous line of G4s (466, dp533, 733) Apple removed the external power pass through on the case. This is all most likely due to the ADC providing power to monitors.

If you aren't using the ADC, you probably could safely split the power for a 4th drive, but I wouldn't suggest it!

enjoy!

2 or 4 drives

From the literature, it seems like you can only attach 2 drives if you are going to use the RAID feature. 4 drive in the traditional Master/Slave non-RAID scenario.

Perhaps this is a misprint, but it certainly isn't clear exactly how many drive can operate in the RAID configuration.

Also, when is somebody going to come out with a RAID-5 ATA card?

Best feature is no more restrictions of 128Gb, this does away with that completely. Also I notice that they offer a flash updater to from their plain ATA100 to 133 on their site.
Nice to see new stuff that catches up with the wintel world?

I don't think this is a serious issue with the extremely high amperage supported by the power supply. It's ratet 12Amps at 12V. That's 144W!
You can easily connect 4 disks or more.

And if it goes wrong, you can get your guarantee back by removing the power splitter.

By the way, my G4 350 AGP only supports a maximum of 1,5A (345W) according to the case.

ACARD Raid

This card looks a lot like the A CARD raid card. However this card allows sleep mode. I wonder if A CARD will allow a flash update to support sleep modes.

First off, How dare you! suggest cheating apple, sure they may not find out but it is still wrong. Just because you decide to add a power Y and fry your power supply they should pay for it? NO! you should pay for it Because you did something that was out of Spec.
