    Works for me...

I burned an 85 minute DVD first day I got it.

    Works for me, too

I also burned a 87 minute DVD immediately after I got my software package. I had Classic running, and connections to several file servers were open. No problems whatsoever.

    energy saver?

Maybe the energy saver control panel is set to 1 hour? Not sure if it would break anything but I recall it causing problems for me a few years ago with toast.. Maybe the disk is spinning down for instance...

I have a 79 minutes DVD project made on IDVD 2 over MAC OS X 10.1 the burning
process is taking around 14 minutes but at the end of the burning process I am
    getting this error message

The recording device reported the illegal request

The DVD media is operational but it lacks the las 49 seconds of the file
