Compaq beats Apple for best wireless notebook

Four companies were awarded honors for their efforts in the wireless industry at Andrew Seybold's Outlook 4Mobility dinner conference, which took place Monday night. Atheros Communications received the Wireless LAN Award for being first to ship 802.11a wireless LANs in volume, while Compaq won the award for "Most Innovative Wirelessly-Enabled Notebook Computer," for its EVO with 802.11b (AirPort) connectivity. Other awards went to Leap Wireless International and Qualcomm.
