Archos has announced a new line of USB 2.0 peripherals, including its MiniCDRW 2 (16x/10x/24x), a slim-line, portable 16x CD-R that includes mastering software for both Macs and PCs. The new Cesar-CDRW/MPM is a bus-powered CD-RW described as "the smallest portable 8x8x24x CD-RW drive on the market." It is available with either USB 2.0, FireWire, or PC Card interfaces. Archos also introduced its portable MiniHD, which is available in 6GB, 20GB and 40GB capacities. The bus-powered device, weighing only 6.5 oz, is expected to be available with USB 2.0, PC Card, FireWire, and USB 1.1 hot-swappable interfaces. Availability and pricing are both expected in December.

    Mac support problems

I have had some rather significant support issues with my existing Archos MiniCDRW drive that would discourage me from buying any more of their products.

First, their driver actually doesn't work on my G4. The drive only works with a copy of Toast that I purchased separately and then only works at 2x speed. And then only in OS 9.

Second, the driver that their tech support pointed me to for OS X support does not function correctly and they have as yet not responded to my requests for further support.

Third, the drive does not function at all via classic nor with iTunes.

    Ok, these are 2.5 inch...

6 gigabyte drives for 170 bucks...and the iPod costs 400 bucks? why couldnt they use one of these hard drives? they apparently are cheaper. anyone KNOW the reason? i could speculate, but i want a reason.
