Apple market share in Ireland under 2 percent

The Irish Times reports that Apple's market share in Ireland is less than 2 percent, noting that it shipped about 1500 units in the last quarter, according to MacNN reader Simon Spence: "This is disappointing as Ireland builds the PowerMac in Cork (Republic of Ireland) and it launched its Irish Apple Store this year."

Ireland has been the source of most Apple gear for the UK for a long time, and I expect their market share reflects their efficiencies. Phoning the UK Apple Store, which also seems to be based in Ireland, is like phoning back to some grim warehouse in the last century. Everything takes three to four weeks to get hold of, and is then delayed in postage - which you pay for. There is no sign of any planning for demand, or independent thought by the UK/ireland operation on behalf of its customers. Ever try getting an OS upgrade disk, of any flavour, out of Apple UK? You'd be better off waiting until your old OS eveolved to a higher level on its own.
In the UK, where there are a couple of good online/mail order Mac suppliers that can deliver the next day, no-one I know ever buys direct from Apple. Perhaps in Ireland they've got no choice - and so no market share.
