Houston Chronicle writer converts to OS X

updated 06:45 pm EST, Sun November 11, 2001

Houston Chronicle author Dwight Silverman writes "Windows users: If you play around with this operating system long enough, you'll probably want it, too... I can almost guarantee you'll be tempted. It's that sweet," in his evaluation of Mac OS X. He suggests Windows users add a low-end iMac with OS X to their existing networks.

    It works, I did it...

    I just bought a used iMac 500 the other day to add to my Windows/Linux network. I'm just that much closer to replacing my x86 laptop with a PowerPC one...

    (Now if only I could get the Mac to stop leaving pieces of it's self all over my network file shares, I'd be happy...)

    That's exactly what it ain't. I'm neither rich nor a kid.
    The *fact* is that it works so infinitley better than Windows. You can really do your work with, not just play. The *only* real reason for people not to migrate is *games*. So there you are kid. The Mac is the real thing, Windows is a plastic imitation.

    And with 20000 apps

    and games coming for Mac OS X, you might be surprised what is out there! http://guide.apple.com for applications, and http://www.macgamer.com/features/futurereleases/index.php for future and current games! Mac OS X is the system to beat because of its stability, and its built in pre emptive multitasking, multithreading, and symmetric multiprocessing. It is a Mac on the outside, and a true Unix on the inside. You only have to worry about the outside. But if you want to develop software, it comes with its own built-in compiler.

    I always had a cleanup-script at root that did a find / -name .AppleDouble -exec rm -rf {} ;
    Nowadays I don't care anymore :)
