Sony today introduced a "stylish" ultra-slim portable CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo drive, which is available with both PC Card and USB 2.0 interfaces. The $330 drive supports a 20X maximum write speed, has an 8MB buffer, and includes Sony's Power-Burn technology for preventing buffer under-run and writing errors due to mechanical shocks. Additionally, the USB 2.0 version includes Mac software such as B's Recorder Gold, Dantz Retrospect Express, ArcSoft PhotoBase (manage/share media collections), PhotoStudio 2000 for image editing, and VideoImpression for creating and editing videos. The PC card version is expected to ship this month (with an additional $30 mail-in rebate), while the USB 2.0 version will ship next month.
