Inventec Corp, one of Taiwan's largest notebook computer makers, dismissed on Friday a newspaper report it has won an order from Apple to make PDA handheld computers. The Economic Daily News said Inventec received an order to make 600,000 PDAs a year for Apple, with shipments to begin from the fourth quarter of this year.

    NOT a PDA. Its iPod!!!!!

    Good cripes. think about it.....

The company is likely making Apple's iPod and some Bone Headed/Dimwitted reporter took the available info and thought he had proof that Apple was finally making a PDA!

Jobs is quoted in the recent Business 2.0 article stating their Taiwan manufacturer is "tooled up to pound out hundreds of thousands of them per quarter."

If these reporters keep it up, they'll soon write themselves into oblivion. We just have to give them enough rope and they'll clearly hang themselves.

    I believe this...

...like I believed the reports that Taiwan manufacturer Alpha Top was producing 14-inch LCD panels for Apple, which had everyone wetting themselves about a third laptop. He he he!!

However, we know other digital devices are coming. I would love a new Apple PDA, but the market is so tight. It would be nice if Apple could sell 600,000 of any new product right now...

    iPod PDA

Ok, so the iPod isn't a personal data assistant in the usual sense of the phrase, but it is a personal data assistant if your thing is music.

    too bad...

It isn't true... After 8 years, it's time to replace my MP100, and I went with the iPaq. I love my Newton, and wish Apple would resurect it...

Too bad you went with the iPaq.

I feel the Palm m505 is more in keeping with the Newton spirit than the bloated let's-put-Windows-into-a-handheld PocketPC montrosity.

Things like requiring a minimal number of taps to do something, clean Mac-like menus, sense of playful fun in its artwork...

Like all Microsoft products, they really don't get it.
