Agfa has decided to abandon its digital camera and consumer scanner businesses in North America, citing intense compeititon and market pressure. The German company will instead focus on its core operations of professional scanners, retail photo labs and camera film. Agfa's digital camera shipments fell from 29,000 units in the first quarter to 6,500 units in the third quarter of this year.

    Holy cow!

I'm in the market right now for a scanner, and was actually looking at buying an Agfa, but was holding out to see if they came out with OSX drivers.

Wow. A name like Agfa too. This recession is really starting to hit.

    Hm

I've been looking at an AGFA scanner, too. It's amazing how hard they are to find. The only place I could seem to find one was Amazon.com, and it was never in stock there.

    That bites!

They make the best commercial & consumer scanners out there, bar none. i think they already do have Mac OS X drivers, as I saw a download for them at VersionTracker.com last week.

They will still be supporting them, so I'd but one if you can.

It might not suck so bad

The blurb says they're getting out of the "cosumer" scanner business. The article says they'll continue to make professional-grade scanners. I just hope that includes a $2k+ desktop model and not just the $10k+ drum-scanning models. They by far make the best scanners availble to professional artists.

    SnapTouch at half.com

I found recertified Agfa SnapTouch at half.com for ~ $60. Works great, Agfa has MacOS X software for it!

    Buy in Europe

Log on to amazon.co.uk and get one shipped from Europe if you *really* want an Agfa scanner. I know what you mean, I like them myself.
