Adobe yesterday announced that its fourth-quarter and 2002 earnings will be below previous estimates and said it plans to cut 150 jobs, or 5% of its workforce. For the fourth quarter ending Nov. 30, Adobe expects to earn 20 to 22 cents a share, below the consensus forecast of 26 cents. It also said that it expects to earn $1.03 a share on revenue of $1.3 billion during 2002, while analysts had been expecting earnings of $1.22 a share.

    What is Adobe doing?

NPR stated the loss of 150 jobs (5%). The also stated that they did not go ahead with the ground breaking of a new tower today. BUT they are going ahead with it.

That makes a lot of sense. Fire your manpower to build a new facility.

Also why don't they get off their butts and get Photoshop for OS X out there. They were boasting about it for two years. This year it's mum. Bury the hatchet with Apple on iPhoto and get Photoshop out the door.

They're shooting themeselves in the foot. And giving maketshare in the font management area to Suitcase.

Honestly I don't feel that they're very solid at present. And even shakier with the new management in place.

    Apple Takeover

If Adobe's value continues to fall, maybe Apple should think about acquiring them. Apple owns Filemaker which successfullly markets and supports the cross-platform data base app. Why not do the same with Adobe? Apple would certainly be able to ensure their dominance in the graphic arts well into the future. Apps would be released in a more timely fashion as well.

    Timely Manner???

We are talking about Apple. Most of the time they come in on the 11th or 12th hour for software / upgrades. Buying Adobe is a possibility. But will all the lawsuits and intricies I don't believe it would be a smart move.

    Time to wake up

Adobe has been sleeping for well over a year now. They sued macromedia over that bullsh*t pallette thing and have only produced bloated upgrades that have not speeded up productivity and applications which no one needs like the ebook thing and that POS for developers to share work online. Who is going to use that? What is going on over their. They sue some poor b****** from Russia over some c*** thing with uneeded ebook software, They fight with Apple over the iPhoto thing, as if they have bothered to produce anything better themselves. Sounds like the burps of a dying company. I don't think Apple should buy Adobe, be a waste of money.

    Apple Takeover?

Unlikely. Would be too messy for Apple.
Not to mention costly too if it became hostile.
