Netscape 6.2, released yesterday, brings OS X support, improved performance on a dual-CPU machines, better mail/news performance, LDAP support, an integrated AIM client, Page Setup functions, and many bug fixes (QT movies, spellcheck, infinite number of mail folders, etc.)

Some of the highlights of Netscape 6.2 for Mac OS X:

- It's a real release as opposed to the N6.1 Preview for Mac OS X
- It's a bundled/packaged app
- Fixed slower than cold maple syrup performance on dual-CPU machines
- No longer hogs CPU after opening mail/news windows
- Infinite number of mail folders bug fixed
- E-mail w/o DST offset no longer gets bogus date of 1931
- Spellcheck no longer crashes
- Windows unexpectedly closing/zooming after being dragged fixed
- Page Setup supported (also in the Mac Classic version of N6.2)
- Crash reloading QT movies fixed
- All submenus now functional
- LDAP now works
- Helper apps for file downloads now work
- Integrated AIM client works
- Mousewheel scrolling is more responsive by default
- New window creation respects the Dock
- "Technicolor" menus from N6.1 under OS X 10.1 fixed

    Crashes

I haven't tried Netscape in X yet, but it has crashed and lock up my mac in less than an hour in 9.2.1. I really like the idea that you can have all that information in one location (plus you can turn it off at will) and if I could change the Instant messager to ICQ I would make the change regardless of the crashes.

    Slowness?

IS it just me, or is this thing slow as molasses? I feel as if I'm working on an old Quadra or something trying to navigate around... and the preference panel -- if you open up all the sub-menus, wouldn't it make sense to put scroll bars so that you can access the options that scroll off the bottom of the window?

Grrr... I was really looking forward to this release, but it's just too damn slow. Plus it HOGS memory like you wouldn't believe. I've got a G4/400 PCI with 640MB of RAM, and I'll be sticking with IE for now.

    This things blows...

I feel compelled to apologize to Microsoft for thinking that nobody could possibly make a worse web browser that Internet Explorer for OS X. This thing is a complete pig.

    - Slow as molasses on a cold day

    - Menus stop working if one of the "customize" dialogs is open

    - Organizing favorites is a chore

    - No way to collapse one of the sidebar tabs once you've expended it.

    - Seems to have problems with DNS. Can't find sites that IE loads just fine.

    - Did I mention that it's slow?
