Opera Software has posted Opera 5.0b4, a new version of the alternative browser. Beta 4 now has an advertising-supported mode as well as file upload functions, a new "Link Toolbar", an updated user interface, a new installer, better AppleScript support, autofill of forms, new balloon help, revised preferences layout, and searchable/dockable bookmarks.

Opera ad mode=sea sick
I'm running Opera on 9.2 and X.1. The X.1 version has the ad mode and it is distracting enough to have flashing ads in the page. In ad mode, Opera runs an additional, often flashing, ad in the upper right part of the screen. I actually experience motion sickness when it happens. I may well pay the $30 to register once Opera is stable on X.1. But ad mode makes it less likely that I will even try it.
