German company Ableton is now shipping Live 1.01, a $350 audio sequencer that can be played like an instrument: "[It] allows you to bring together audio material from various sources. All the samples used are adjusted to the tempo of the song in real time and without changing the pitch....Samples can be played back and new ones can be recorded using the mouse, computer keyboard or MIDI Notes." It includes high-impact effects, supports VST plug-ins, can be remotely controlled by MIDI-control-devices, and supports ASIO as well as ReWire.
