Sorenson Media today announced the availability of its new VBR compression utility for QuickTime 5 on OS X, Sorenson Squeeze 1.0 and Sorenson Video 3.1, an update to its professional QuickTime codec.
Sorenson Squeeze is "the first" variable bit rate (VBR) compression application for QuickTime 5 on Mac OS X. It allows users to create, encode, and deliver high-quality QuickTime movies for streaming and progressive downloads. Squeeze includes a drag-and-drop interface for simplifying intelligent compression of audio and video media at a custom data rate. The $300 application is available for an introductory price of $150.
Sorenson Video 3.1 brings OS X compatibility, as well as multiprocessor support and one-pass VBR compression. The $500 QuickTime-compatible video codec is designed for developers of applications or Web sites that require compressed video segments. It is a free upgrade for v3.0 customers, and previous customers can upgrade for $250.
