They just wanted to ensure that absolutely NO ONE buys their product! Or it could be the warranty too...
USD400.00 = GBP 280.00
Not GBP349.00. I was considering buying one at around GBP300.00, now they can stick it where the sun doesn't shine. irip-off.
If it's too much, buy a cheaper MP3 player and enjoy it.
You're not obliged to buy every product Apple sells, so why get your pants in a twist?
....the apple UK site under Hotnews still says £329 and the Applestore UK doesn't even have any details on it yet. I suggest people keep quiet until we really know...or order it from US resellers if possible :)
Just an idea:
1.Call friend/relative in US.
2.Set up a paypal account and pay $400.00.
3. Beg US aquaintance to buy iPod, cleverly disguise it as a present and ship across Atlantic.
Save about 80.00 quid. Worth the hassle? You decide.
Come on folks. UK prices of consumer goods are always listed WITH the VAT. US prices never have any taxes in them. I don't remember what the VAT is now in the UK but around 17% or 18%. The $ -- £ exchange rate on Tuesday, when this was released made the prices pretty much exactly equal when the VAT is figured in, which you have to do. If it is indeed raised to £349, it is probably due to the fact that the US$ has gone up with the latest economic news this week (expectation that interest rates in the US will go down and pump up the US and world economy according to reuters.com).
Actual price in the Netherlands is FL. 979,- = Euro 444,2508.
Still better than in the UK.
I can't wait untl the Euro is introduced - it will make it that much more difficult for companies to charge different prices in different countries. Tax excluded of course.
The Euro is already here. Apple already prices in Euros if you want. Euros have been around in non-cash form for a year or two now already. Pound Sterling is not a Euro currency (yet) and probably floats against it, hence changes against Euro zone countries prices as the pound changes value, just like how pounds and Euros float against dollar based items like Apple items.

warrenty
I bet this is because they had to give the iPod a decent warrenty, not the practically illegal (or should be) 90 days northern america is getting.
So they gave a longer warrenty and carried the cost onto the consumer, as well as the 25% bump up of course
