Sequential decline in PC sales; Dell No. 1
updated 12:50 am EDT, Fri October 19, 2001
Gartner Dataquest and IDC both said that worldwide sales of PCs slowed for a second consecutive quarter. Dell, the only major PC maker to see an increase in the just-concluded third quarter, shipped about 14.5 percent of 29.1 million PC shipped in the quarter, while Compaq, IBM, and HP rounded out the top four spots. Both blamed the ongoing PC slump on a saturated market and weak economic conditions made worse by the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
