Apple has provided more details on the PowerBook G4's new square-shaped power adapter designed to fit in the palm of your hand

"...[it is] designed to fit in the palm of your hand. The new adapter has built-in hooks that let you wrap the DC cord for neater storage. The AC cord lets you connect your PowerBook to an outlet up to 12 feet away, and you can also remove the cord and use the included AC plug to connect the adapter directly into the wall. Colored status LED lights show charging status. An amber ring indicates that your battery is recharging, while a green ring tells you that you have a full charge."

    Apparently both....

    From Apple's site:

Extra Portable Power Adapter - Available for order in November

The 45 watt AC adapter for the PowerBook and iBook features dual voltage (100-240 volts) capability, a two prong connector, and a small, light, roll-up power cord. This power adapter recharges the lithium ion battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

    Does This Mean

    That the yo-yo is obsolete??

    iBook

It comes with the iBook too, check the Apple Store. Finally a small power supply... that yo-yo looked ridiculous with the TiBook and iBook!

    Is it liek the Newton's

anyone saw the adapter that came with the newton, it was very small and light, but the cool thing was that you could fold in the metal connectors! I wonder if this adapter has the same feature, probably not as it would have said so somewhere...

    battery

what would be really nice is a change to the battery design, so that one could effectively use the power adapter for the computer to charge a spare battery.

i have 2 batteries with my g4 powerbook, and it'd be really nice to use an otherwise unused power adapter to charge the battery that isn't being used. i know vst has a separate charger, but it's pretty expensive, and would require me to bring yet one more piece of equipment should i want additional battery charging features while travelling.

palm's travel adapter for the m500/5, btw, has the folding prongs (and ships with many different power conversion adapters for use in different countries.).

    Looks similar

to the charger for my Motorola mobile phone, it has a two prong fold-out connector for the US, when these are retracted you can attach a UK or euro plug adaptor, which come with the PSU.

If they've done that it'll be quite neat.

    Stealing a march

From themselves. ;) Many of the design elements are a return to the well-designed Duo power adapter of the past: the square-edged packable shape, the built-in (probably folding) hooks for cord storage, the interchangeable wall plug and AC cord, the built-in charge indicator lights (on the optional Duo charger, though they were more useful there). It's basically a nice evolution of all those ideas - kudos to (someone at) Apple for returning and refining instead of reinventing. Basically it's just smaller (and the hooks are probably more sturdy than the Duo one had).

As someone else mentioned, the only thing missing is the way one could simultaneously charge a second battery attached to the Duo adapter. That's somewhat less of an issue with today's battery life, but it'd still be useful for someone who's out all day and just wants to plug the thing in and crash (into bed) at night.

    What's a foot?

Friggin' arrogant Americans! Don't you realise most of the world flicked over to the metric system even before you were crashing probes on Mars.

Would it be too hard for you to post measurements that the rest of the world could understand?

Anyway, I watch Star Trek and they often speak of spaceships before so many km away, so you must know what metric units are.
