Are you one of those high-end BMW owners? If so, you probably already know that the company has announced that owners of many current BMW models will be able to use hands-free integration, courtesy of the Apple iPhone. Even better, using it will require no additional purchases.

The iPhone will work as a Bluetooth-enabled cellphone on the BMW Assist-equipped models. These models include support for Bluetooth handsfree-calling and were manufactured in October 2004 or later. The best part of this integration is that iPhone users can use iPhone’s address book by using the multi-function steering wheel and/or dashboard controls.

If you’re a BMW driver who currently uses the iPod feature, you will find that iPhone use will be available via the in-vehicle controls and central information or radio display on models equipped with the optional iPod/USB Interface.

Now if only I could find another $40-$50,000 to buy one of these cars and I would be all set. Unfortunately for the poorer people among us, chances are this feature will not be available in Chevys or Fords anytime soon. Oh well, I’ll just use my Bluetooth headset and be done with it.
