FontGear announces FontPad Server for web fonts

Manages, protects fonts from being copied

Enterprise font software maker FontGear has debuted FontPad Server, an internet server that both manages and protects web fonts used on web pages. The software allows users to specify what domains or pages are allowed to use which fonts, and then serves encrypted font data that prevents viewers from copying the commercially-licensed fonts used. The program gives designers the freedom to use custom fonts without worry.

Web designers use a simple CSS link in their web pages to request web fonts from the users' own domain. Because the server is under the users' control rather than coming from a font service, FontPad Server does not require any third-party participation in order to present web pages using custom fonts that visitors can see but not download or cut-and-paste.

The program includes support for customizable 404 response pages as well as HTTP and HTTPS pages. It also features domain blocking and control, data throughput graphing and activity logs along with other features.

The program works on Intel Macs running OS X 10.6 and higher or Windows (XP through 7), along with Linux (3.0.0 or Ubuntu 11.x). Pricing is based on annual licensing of either one or three years, and costs $149 (one year licensing) or $299 (three year licensing). A free trial version is also available.
