Panasonic shows Chargepad, auxiliary batteries
Panasonic Japan on Thursday introduced the Chargepad for wirelessly charging auxiliary batteries that will in turn charge mobile devices such as smartphones. The Chargepad is certified by Qi and can be paired with either of two auxiliary batteries/chargers introduced alongside the pad. There is the 5,400mAh QE-PL201-W and the 2,700mAh QE-PL101-W.
The battery packs hold either two AA or AAA nickel metal hydride batteries from Panasonic. Users then plug the battery packs into their smartphone, such as an iPhone, as there aren't any integrated backs, like with other systems, to charge the iPhone directly when placed on the Chargepad.
The three items ship in Japan on June 24, though there is no word on international availability. The Chargepad will cost the equivalent of $61, the larger battery pack will cost $61 and the smaller battery pack about $49. [
